Rivalry to shower Margao with 5-day festivities

MARGAO: With the presence of two rival organizing committees, Margao will play host to two Shigmo festivities-one affiliated to Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and headed by Vasant Shirodkar and the other headed by former Fatorda MLA Damodar 'Damu' Naik.

PONDA: Controversy-ridden Ponda kicked of the state's Shigmotsav parade on Wednesday, albeit a tad late, but sans any signs that the temple town till Tuesday had been gripped with allegations and even a court case over the organization of the festivities.

PANAJI: Goa's annual Shigmo festival will open with a colourful parade of mythological tableaux in Ponda on March 27. While Shigmo float parades will be held in 14 towns this year, Panaji will witness the spectacle on March 30.

Ravi Naik's Shigmo samiti moves HC

PONDA: Following an appointment of a committee by the government to organize Shigmo festivities in Ponda, Damu Naik, secretary of the 'Ponda Taluka Antruz Shigmotsava Samiti' has moved the high court of Bombay at Goa seeking rights to organize the festivity by his samiti. Former Ponda MLA Ravi Naik is heading the samiti.

TAG says not involved in tiatr ticket hike

PANAJI: The Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) has clarified that it has nothing to do with the hike in the price of tiatr tickets from Rs 70 to Rs 100.

PONDA: The former chief minister, Mr Ravi Naik on Thursday hit back at the government accusing it of politicising the Shigmo celebrations and said that the Ponda Taluka Antruz Shigmostava Committee members are ready to face even a lathicharge and can go behind bars but will go ahead with the Shigmo celebrations on March 27.

Now, pay Rs 100 to watch a tiatr in auditoriums

MARGAO: Starting from Easter Sunday, tiatr aficionados will be have to pay more to watch the state's popular entertainment. Stating that the rising prices, high cost of inflation, high cost of living and frequent hike in petrol and diesel prices have finally affected the Konkani tiatr sector too, the Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) has decided to increase the cost of the tickets from the present 70 to 100 for tiatr staged in all auditoriums across Goa.

GOA: Singer-songwriter Madeleine Chase from Australia will be the international artiste opening for Smoking Chutney at the 'Thursday Night Live' show at the Sofala in Nerul, on March 21 from 8pm onwards.

MARGAO: Mr Prince Jacob, president of TAG said that a memorandum of demands will be forwarded to the government and that a copy of it will be forwarded to the Minister for Fisheries, Mr Avertano Furtado seeking his help.
