Goa Municipalities Act to be redrafted

PANAJI: Deputy chief minister Francis D'Souza has said that Goa Municipalities Act 1968 will be redrafted. The amendment bill will be tabled in the next session of Goa assembly.

MARGAO: The Goa state scheduled tribes action committee (GSSTAC) headed by Antonio Gaunkar has demanded that steps be taken to implement the reservation of seats in the legislative assembly for scheduled tribes (ST) as per Article 332/3 of the Constitution of India.

PANAJI: Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo on Tuesday dismissed both disqualification petitions filed against BJP Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo on grounds of jurisdiction. The decision was based on the opinion of the election commission of India (ECI).

PANAJI: In a major development that could have some bearing on the composition of the Bharatiya Janata Party and state legislature, two Congress workers have filed a petition seeking disqualification of Mr Glen Ticlo, a sitting legislator of the ruling combine from Aldona constituency, for being a citizen of Portugal and not being a citizen of India, before the Governor of Goa.

Election Commission derecognizes Save Goa Front

The Election Commission of India has upheld the merger of the Save Goa Front (SGF) party with the Indian National Congress in 2007 and has decided to delete it from the list of political parties in the state, election officials said.

The Election Commission on Tuesday banned exit polls till March 3, till the completion of assembly elections in five states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa.

The EC team which visited Goa on Wednesday reviewed the arrangements for the Assembly polls scheduled on March 3. Acting under Election Commission orders, Goa Government has suspended a top official for breaching the code of conduct.
