Aquem meet flays Kamat on Costa ground issue

MARGAO: Margao MLA and former chief minister Digambar Kamat came in the line of heavy fire from persons who spoke at the protest meeting organized by the Aquem ground bachao samiti (AGBS) at Aquem, Margao, on Sunday.

MARGAO: With the aim of pressuring the Margao municipal council (MMC) to acquire the Aquem based Costa ground, a public meeting will be held on Sunday in Aquem at 4.30pm to mobilize public support to save the ground.

PANAJI: The central road research institute (CRRI), which had agreed to the request of the previous Congress government to prepare a traffic and transportation study for Goa at a cost of 60,66,500, has now requested for time till September 30 for submission of the report.

Parrikar gets the stick from tiatrists

PANAJI: Just like in his tiatr, Mariano Fernandes did not name the offender, but the message was loud and clear.

PANAJI: Not naming any politician directly, the directorate of mines and geology on Friday filed a criminal complaint in the illegal mining case before the crime branch. It also requested the police to file an FIR against persons identified in the reports of the Supreme Court-appointed central empowered committee (CEC), Shah commission and public accounts committee (PAC). It further forwarded a copy of the complaint to the state government to refer the matter to the Lokayukta for recovery of losses and investigations into other civil issues.

PANAJI: Both national parties in Goa have been having a stormy month. While the turbulence in the BJP went by and large unnoticed, that in the Congress has been well documented. Strangely, it is the indecisiveness and passive approach of the Congress, coupled with factionalism over the GPCC leadership issue, that has left BJP dissidents helpless and pushed to a corner.

NGO seeks CBI probe into mining scam

PANAJI: Margao-based environmental NGO, Goa Paryavaran Savrakshan Sangharsh Samitee, has filed a petition in the high court of Delhi seeking a CBI probe into the "illegal plunder of mines" and "clandestine export of iron ore worth over 625 crore".

BJP resorts to mandal-level meets

MARGAO: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has gone into overdrive to boost the morale of its cadres ahead of the parliamentary elections. Towards that end, meetings are being held at mandal levels to galvanize the grass root party workers. And the party has also launched Gram Chalo Ghar Chalo abhiyan (mandal level door-to-door campaign).

Margao's sewerage facilities get off paper

MARGAO: Chief minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday laid the foundation stone for the work of construction of sewerage facilities in Margao, part of the Goa water supply and sewerage project aided by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

PANAJI: While the Goa state BJP three days ago urged the Manohar Parrikar-led government to expedite investigation against former chief minister Digambar Kamat and his ministerial colleagues Churchill Alemao and Vishwajit Rane for corruption, the chief minister on Thursday on the social networking site has said the Cyberage scheme initiated by him more than ten years ago, had become "a source of financial mismanagement in the previous government".
