AICC: Government harrasing Cong workers

PANAJI: All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and in-charge of Goa desk, Digvijaya Singh who is on a two-day visit to Goa, condemned the state government's "atrocities" against some Congress workers.

BJP draws flak for encouraging casinos

PANAJI: The Congress on Tuesday demanded that the government not encourage casinos in the state. Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Subhash Shirodkar said that the state government should not grant permissions to operate the new Horseshoe Casino in the River Mandovi.

PANAJI: Former PWD minister Churchill Alemao's daughter Valanka Alemao may face a tough time in getting elected as the president of Goa Pradesh Youth Congress (GPYC) as few a Congress MLAs, GPCC president Subhash Shirodkar, and office bearers have come together to defeat her.

PANAJI: Not naming any politician directly, the directorate of mines and geology on Friday filed a criminal complaint in the illegal mining case before the crime branch. It also requested the police to file an FIR against persons identified in the reports of the Supreme Court-appointed central empowered committee (CEC), Shah commission and public accounts committee (PAC). It further forwarded a copy of the complaint to the state government to refer the matter to the Lokayukta for recovery of losses and investigations into other civil issues.

PANAJI: Both national parties in Goa have been having a stormy month. While the turbulence in the BJP went by and large unnoticed, that in the Congress has been well documented. Strangely, it is the indecisiveness and passive approach of the Congress, coupled with factionalism over the GPCC leadership issue, that has left BJP dissidents helpless and pushed to a corner.

Committee set up to galvanize Congress

PANAJI: As part of its renewed efforts to galvanize the party in the state, a state coordination committee headed by AICC general secretary in charge of Goa desk Digvijay Singh has been constituted.
