MARGAO: With large number of illegal structures pending for regularization under Article 372-A of the Code of Comunidades with various comunidades in the state, the South Goa collector's order rejecting the applications of alleged encroachers at Tolsanzor has come as blast of fresh air for the stakeholders of comunidades who are determined to free their lands of illegal squatters and encroachers.

MARGAO: With the aim of pressuring the Margao municipal council (MMC) to acquire the Aquem based Costa ground, a public meeting will be held on Sunday in Aquem at 4.30pm to mobilize public support to save the ground.

PANAJI: Reacting to the statement of AICC general secretary and Congress Goa desk in charge Digvijaya Singh that BJP leaders are involved in illegal mining across the country, Bharatiya Janata Party state unit spokesman Wilfred Mesquita alleged that through his statements, Singh is trying to cover up the sins of omission and commission of Congress leaders in Goa, all of who were totally immersed in illegal mining and all other illegal acts of governance.

PANAJI: The government has for the first time begun the process of appointing this year's postgraduate students of the Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital, Bambolim, at various community health centres (CHCs) in the state and 42 as senior residents at the GMC.

PANAJI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice-president and spokesperson Wilfred Mesquita said on Friday that the government has no problem with dance bars operating in the state.

VASCO: A proposal by the Mormugao municipal council (MMC) to change the pattern of setting up stalls for the DamodarSaptah and organize them into various sections drew angry protests from the stall vendors.

PANAJI: The state government is in the process of holding taluka-wise consultation meetings with elected members of panchayati raj institutions in Goa to elicit their views regarding the government's proposal to carry out major amendments to the Goa Panchayati Raj Act and various other issues.

MARGAO: A Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Margao, on Thursday adjourned to August 22 the trial of the alleged fake ticket scam of 2001. The scam involves former Goa Cricket Association (GCA) chief Dayanand Narvekar, incumbent GCA president Vinod Phadke and others.

PANAJI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Goa, has begun an investigation against the officials of Airports Authority of India (AAI) and a contractor in connection with the alleged 1crore scam in the purchase of cement bags for the construction of a new apron at the Dabolim international airport.
