Built by GROUNDED, a team of architects turned developers, Nivim is an expansive country home meant to rediscover the quiet luxury found in nature. Perched on a lush slope amongst tropical trees, Nivim is the first green certified home in Goa. Nivim is built in a global contemporary design style that features the best of indoor-outdoor living. The architecture of the house maximizes the use of natural materials. The large openings allow a seamless connection with nature, while maximizing daylight and natural ventilation in all indoor spaces.
Nivim is located in the quaint village of Aldona in rural North Goa. The property comprises of the main house with three bedrooms and a pool pavilion that also functions as a guest annex with an additional bedroom. The main house and pavilion are centered around a series of courtyards that incorporate 4 mature trees that existed on the site prior to construction. In addition, there are 10 other existing trees on the property that have been incorporated in the design of the house. These trees include 1 mango tree, 2 jackfruit, 2 tamarind, 1 drumstick and 1 tefla (local spice used in Goan fish curry) tree.
The land at Nivim is sloping and the main house is sited at the highest elevation. This ensures complete privacy from the road and an open view from the living areas. The living room is designed to be a grand space with a double-height ceiling and two large sliding doors that open the space completely to make it a part of the outdoors. The living room also features two walls with exposed local basalt stone. The top windows are louvered to keep out the harsh sun and allow soft filtered light to flood the room at all times of the day.
The bedrooms at Nivim are designed as pavilions in the garden. Each bedroom has two walls with sliding doors that open to connect to their wrap-around verandahs and balconies. All the bathrooms have their own dedicated courtyards (balcony in the case of the master bedroom) with outdoor showers and baths.
Nivim is a ‘Gold’ certified green building by the Indian Green Building Council, the first in Goa. The green features at Nivim include incorporating the land’s natural landscape including existing trees, the use of local materials, reuse and recycle of building materials whenever possible, and waste reduction during construction. The house is also designed to minimize the use of energy and water during occupancy. The house collects and stores rainwater for future use, and uses solar energy for heating water. In addition, the gardens are planted with local native plant species that require minimum to no water for irrigation once mature.
The property is located within 30 minutes from the famous beaches of Anjuna and Vagator as well as the popular bars and restaurants in North Goa. The northern beaches of Morjim, Mandrem and Arambol are 40 minutes away. The Dabolim International Airport is approximately 1 hour away.
